Abstract

The experiment to study effect of NaCl and drought stresses on various morpho-physiological attributes of seven sunflower genotypes was carried out in the laboratory, Oilseeds Research Institute, Faisalabad in 2017. It was laid out in Completely Randomized Design through factorial arrangement and repeated thrice. Two sunflower hybrids, FH 331, FH 585 and four of their parental inbred lines viz., RL-39, ORI-20B, RL-47 and ORI-27B alongside check HYSUN-33 were tested against the water limitation and salinity stress. The stress treatments wereT1= zero stress (check),T2=100 mM NaCl, T3= 150mM NaCl, T4=10% PEG8000 and T5= 20% PEG8000. The data indicated that the sunflower hybrid FH-585 had the highest RWC 63.358 %, and was followed very closely by FH-331; the RWC of which were 61.116%. The RWC of HYSUN-33 (the check)were 43.763%. This suggested that the parental inbred lines of FH-331 and FH-585 could be used in the breeding program for bringing forth the drought tolerant sunflower plants
