Abstract

This paper holds that the application of the results of the inventions of science and technology have improved human welfare in various sectors of human life. It has helped mankind in every aspect of life; in areas of transport, communication, medicine, agriculture, architecture, energy, electricity etc. in sort the line is almost unending. In fact, its success has been tremendous in making human life less burdensome. But it emphasizes that since technology is based on science, and it is manmade, it is absolutely unreliable and has caused incalculable damage to mankind because of tragic cases of failures. Also there are destructive effects of technology on mankind due to its misuse in the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction particularly in areas of chemical weapons, atomic bombs, biological weapons, nuclear weapons. Weapons of mass destruction are the greatest threat to the continued existence of mankind on earth today. Therefore, we opine that it should be the primary duty of the world leaders to be in full control of the production and use of technological inventions to prevent their misuse. If not, mankind stands the risk of self-destruction and self-dehumanization.
