Abstract

Orodispersible tablet(ODT) disintegrate and/or dissolve rapidly in the saliva without need of water. ODT tablets are designed to dissolve in saliva remarkably fast within few seconds and are true for fast dissolving tablets. In the present work Enalapril maleate tablet have been developed in an orodispersible tablets formulation (ODT). Which was designed to facilitate tablet disintegration and drug dispersion. Orodispersible tablet of Enalapril maleate which, when placed in the tongue disintegrates or dissolve rapidly in the saliva without water. As tablet disintegrates in the mouth this could enhance the clinical effect of the drug through pregastric absorption from the mouth, pharynx and oesophagus. Enalapril maleate is ACE inhibitors. Orodispersible tablets were prepared by using superdisintegrants such as Sodium starch glycolate,  Croscarmellose sodium and Crospovidone. Formulation F6 containing crospovidone (15%) with appropriate amount of other excipients was considered to be the optimized formulation with desired drug release (94.13%) within 10 minutes. Enalapril Maleate tablet was formulated to achieve rapid dissolution rate of the drug, to improve the bioavailability of the drug, to facilitate faster onset of therapeutic action,  to avoid the aid of water for administration of dosage form and to make easier administration for geriatrics, mentally ill patients and dysphagia patients.
