Rating the effects of Owner managers’ characteristics on the growth of small business

Abstract

Themain objective of this study is to ranking the effects of managers’ characteristics on growth of small enterprises in developing country: Ethiopia. This study is important to both academic research and policy development because of the significant contribution these businesses could make to economic development, the growth of employment and the generation of new innovations. For research design; cross-sectional, descriptive designs study was used in the study. The study used both primary and secondary data. Pertaining to data analysis the researchers used quantitative data analysis techniques mainly descriptive analysis using percentages, tables and mean wereemployed. As per finding shows managers’ characteristics are influencing growth small and medium enterprises. For instance, mean importance ratings of the variables (factors received)   such as; ( managers education, managers  past work experience, managers maintaining his/her motivation, managers   ability to cope with pressure, managers  leadership , managers desire to succeed, managers  commitment and managers desire to learn)  were found in the range higher important rates for the growth of SMEs.This implies, all of manager characteristics variables are important and influencing growth performance of business. Therefore, all of these variables are important to influencing growth performance of business.
