MODEL OF NATIONAL EXAM ANXIETY ON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS JAKARTA CAPITAL PROVINCE

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the role of social support in the structural model of National Test Anxiety in High School Students in Jakarta Academic Year 2011/2012, through the analysis of the correlation between Social Support, Trait Anxiety, Primary Appraisal, National Test Anxiety and Coping Strategies using structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis. The sample in this research were 387 students came from 91 high schools represent the five regions of Jakarta which captured by using a two-stage cluster sampling technique. Instrument validation using confirmatory factor analysis, the results of construct reliability measure for the State Trait Anxiety Inventory = 0.9936, Test Anxiety Inventory = 0.9940, Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale = 0.9973, WAYS of Coping Checklist = 0.9775, and Primary Appraisal Questionnaire = 0.8615. The results showed that the social support contribute significantly to the structural model of National Test Anxiety On High School Students with characteristics; the average trait anxiety, primary appraisal of harm, average anxiety test, and emotional coping strategy or coping avoidance, indicated by the structural model suitability of the relationship between Social Support, Anxiety Traits, Primary appraisal Harm, National Test Facing Anxiety, and Emotions Coping Strategy (Chi-square = 73.01, df = 61, p-value = 0.13956, RMSEA = 0.023), and the structural model suitability of the relationship between Social Support, Anxiety Traits and Primary appraisal of harm with the National Test Anxiety and Avoidance Coping Strategies are fit (Chi-square = 51.91, df = 61, p-value = 0.79014, RMSEA = 0.000).
