Abstract

The aim of this article is to describe what is being done to counteract the spreading and misuse of drugs in schools through a process of restoring a culture of literacy. The restoration of a culture of literacy can be directly related to counteracting the spread and misuse of drugs in schools. Causatively, where consciousness of the danger of drugs is raised through reading and the dissemination of information in the written form regarding the danger of drugs, the distribution and misuse of drugs declines. Also, the movement to restore a culture of literacy can assist students to avoid what is negative, which can be detrimental to their personal wellbeing and their future. The restoration of a culture of literacy involves the raising of a culture of reading in schools. This article describes an   ongoing activity known as “the reading and writing movement”. This movement can be a positive form of escapism for  students. If students have literate competency, they can be challenged to produce essays or novels than can be used in anti-drug campaigns.
