Health promotion is an effective way to change and transform improvements in health. By enabling people to change their behaviour and improve health the outcomes from diseases and illnesses can be improved.

This toolkit gives health professionals in Saudi Arabia the information and change tools needed in managing a health promotion project. It is also a guide through the project process including ways to implement and evaluate change using a practical approach. This includes:

• Practical ways of scoping work initially and building a business case
• Ways of broaching the subject in practice
• Ways of getting change into practice in a cost effective manner
• Outlining tried and tested methodologies
• Looking at ways of reframing work currently in existence to re focus on an issue

Ultimately this toolkit is all about making a difference.

The study was conducted on 30 patients ranging in age from 18 to 75 years, who are undergoing physical therapy.  The psychological evaluation of patient's satisfaction was done using a modified MRPS (MedRisk instrument for measuring satisfaction into physicai tharapy care). The relationship between various components of the MRPS was established with overall satisfaction and would return in future for further care using Pearson product moment co-relation coefficient. Overall satisfaction of the patient is more correlated with the office receptionist is courteous (r = 0.432) and my therapist answers all my questions (r = 0.660). Whereas return to the office in future for care is found to be more correlated to the receptionist's courteousness (r =0.229) and therapist advices on ways to avoid future problem (r = 0.868)

 

During the influenza A(H1N1) pdm09 outbreak, there were concerns about drug resistance to oseltamivir due to a mutation in the influenza A(H1N1) virus. The mutation at amino acid position 275 resulted from a substitution of histidine to tyrosine (H275Y) at the neuraminidase (N1) region was responsible to confer resistance to aseltamivir. The existing methods of detecting resistant viruses by sequencing and NA inhibition assays are laborious and time consuming. In this study, 120 influenza A(H1N1) pdm09 Malaysian viral isolates collected during the 2009-2010 pandemic season were tested for the presence of H275Y mutation by Taqman Dual Probe Real-Time PCR and High Resolution Melting (HRM) assays. The Taqman Real-Time PCR and HRM assays detect and distinguish wild type and mutant H275Y virus using dual probe and a saturation dye respectively. The difference in the sigmoidal curve in the Taqman Assay and the shift in the melt curve in HRM assay occurred when a single nucleotide variation is detected. All 120 influenza A(H1N1) pdm09 Malaysian  isolates were found to be wild type. This finding was consistent with sequencing results. However, the developed HRM assay was found to be robust and cheaper than sequencing and Taqman assay.

The neurofibroma is a benign tumor of nerve tissue origin derived from cells that constitute the nerve sheath. It is seen as a solitary lesion or as part of a generalized syndrome of neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen disease of the skin). The skin is the most common site for neurofibromas. Oral lesions though found in a minority of patients with the generalized syndrome are not uncommon. The tongue and buccal mucosa are the most common sites. On rare occasions, the tumor can arise centrally within the bone. The intraosseous maxillary location is even rarer. We present a case of neurofibroma that presented in the maxilla of a young girl.

Objective: There are several treatments available for the management of lateral epicondylitis (LE), but there is a dearth of clinical trials compared the efficacy of pulsed versus continuous ultrasound therapy (UST) in the management of lateral epicondylitis.

Methods: Based upon inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 20 subjects with the mean age of 37.8±7 years diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis were participated in the study. Subjects were randomly allocated to two groups (n=10 in each), group-A and B and was given pulsed ultrasound therapy (PUST) and continuous ultrasound therapy (CUST) respectively. Although, both study groups were received conventional physiotherapy management in addition to these interventional measures. The pre and post interventional outcome was assessed based on pain intensity by using visual analogue scale (VAS). Total duration of study was for 2weeks.

Results: Although within group comparison showed improvement with respect to decrease in the pain intensity in both individual groups. Whereas, between groups comparisons showed that PUST group subjects pain intensity was significantly reduced while compared to CUST group (p=0.01).

Conclusion: The study concluded that PUST in addition to the conventional physiotherapy exercises for patients with subacute lateral epicondylitis have better result than CUST. Thus current study implies PUST should be considered as a choice in rehabilitation protocol in patients with subacute LE.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the most common location of the mental foramen (MF), its gender differences and bilateral symmetry in a selected Indian population and to compare the results with those reported for other populations.

Materials and Methods: 500 digital panoramic radiographs (DPR) of a randomly selected Indian population were retrospectively studied.

Results: The commonest position of the mental foramen was located between the first and second premolars (46.1%) followed closely by in line with the longitudinal axis of the second premolar (45.5%). MF was symmetrical in 64.8% of patients.

Conclusions: Mental foramina are usually symmetrically located either mesial to or in line with second premolar, consistent with previous findings in other ethnic and racial groups.
