Abstract

Patient confidentiality is one of the key concepts that are fundamental to nursing practice. It is a duty of care that nurses are both ethically and legally bond to in safeguarding patients’ rights. However, nurses are continually faced with challenges of patient confidentiality and this vital obligation is often times disregarded especially in developing countries where there is evidence of knowledge gap in the scope and implementation of this concept. This concept analysis aimed at exploring the different characteristics of patient confidentiality as well as emphasize on its importance as it relates to nursing profession. It also aims to differentiate between the daily use of the concept and its use in the healthcare setting.
