Introduction- Projections beyond 2016 made by UN have indicated that 21% of the Indian population will be more than 60 years by 2050 in comparison to 6.8% in 1991.Health of elderly in the slum areas is a neglected arena. Hence this study was carried out with the objective of knowing the socio-demographic status and morbidity pattern among the elderly in these areas .Materials & Methods- This was a Cross sectional Study where males and females who had completed 60years of age, willing to participate and also share their medical record   were included in the study. 24 slums of Rourkela were selected by random selection technique. This study was carried on for a period of 6 months were 224 subjects were interviewed, a detailed clinical history was taken, medical records verified and blood pressure was measured .Data was collected in a predesigned pretested questionaire containing both open and close ended questions .Chi square test was used for analysis .Results-T he number of females above 80 years of age were 34.8% compared to males who were 9.1%. Apart from systemic morbidities 91 % of the elderly also complained of fragility ie complex physiological deterioration, unexplained weight loss, poor grasping strength, self reported exhausation, slow walking speed and low physical activity.All of them suffered from at least one of the morbidities included in the study. Conclusion-There is a growing need of interventions to ensure the health of this vulnerable geriatric population and to create a policy to meet the care and needs of the disabled elderly.

Damages of bone structures of an elbow joint in children, according to various authors are occurred between 16 and 40% among all of skeleton fractures and makes up 50-80% from all intraarticulate damages of the upper extremity. It was required to develop of a differentiated surgical tactics for surgery of capitellum pseudoarthrosis of humerus with cubitus valgus in child aged patients, that, the cases associated with the nonunion of capitellum or the extension necrosis process, causing to be hypermobility of elbow joint and to pull of ulnar nerve.

Object of research was the capitellum pseudoarthrosis with or without cubitus valgus, which is diagnosed in 59 patients, whom three types of surgical correction are spent depending on weight of deformation, prescription of the got trauma and age of the patients. The capitellum pseudoarthrosis liquidation or necrosis field resection are made in 21 (35,6%) patients, for 8 (13,6 %) patient are admitted the extraarticular supracondylar osteotomy of humerus with ulnar nerve transposition and stabilization by Ilizarov’s apparatus and other 30 (50,8 %) patients was corrected by the developing own clinic technique  - «Capitellum pseudoarthorosis resection of the humerus, supracondylar osteotomy of humerus and osteosynthesis by Ilizarov’s apparatus».

Conclusion

We believe it is reasonable to use our repair techniques when dealing with nonunion of the lateral humeral condyle with cubitus valgus. These differential techniques help to shape the distal part of humerus, thus, restoring the function of the elbow joint.

Objective: To explore the application of continuing care in patients with generalized anxiety disorder after discharge.

Methods: From February 2011 to December 2014, 126 patients with generalized anxiety disorder after discharge were randomly assigned to control group (n=63) and intervention group (n=63). Patients in the intervention group received telephone follow-up and psychological counseling after discharge. When indisposed symptoms appeared, continuing care was conducted with Chinese massage.

Results: Self-rating anxiety scale scores were significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group (P < 0.05). Scores of medication compliance and regular return visit compliance were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P < 0.05). Scores of quality of life were significantly greater in the intervention group than in the control group (P < 0.05).

The prevalence of smoking and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is high among Jordanian population. Despite Jordanian government establishment of tobacco control regulations, Jordanians still smoke in public areas and indoor work places. Implementation of paternalistic laws through prohibiting of smoking in public places and indoor areas, selling tobacco to minors and increasing taxes on tobacco products have been recognized as effective strategies to control smoking and limit its' harm. Government should take firm actions to enforce these regulations to protect Jordanians from the hazards of second-hand smoking. Tobacco use has strong addictive properties. Smoking cessation interventions are necessary to reduce health hazards of tobacco use. According to tobacco cessation guidelines, clinicians should assess smoking behavior at each patient visit and assist patients to quit smoking. Also, clinicians should provide counseling and pharmacological treatment to patients who are willing to quit smoking. On the other hand, patients who are unwilling to quit smoking, motivational intervention and improve patients' self efficacy to quit smoking are highly recommended to help those patients to make attempts to quit smoking in the future.

Title: Assessment of the Health risk among agricultural workers exposed to pesticides in Deoli Block Wardha District

Objectives: 1) To assess the awareness & preparation of handling pesticide and its storage by the agricultural workers. 2) To find and compare the current health status between agricultural workers exposed to pesticide and non-agricultural workers.

Introduction:  Pesticides affect health of farmers. It may be simple irritation of skin and eye to more severe effects such as affecting the nervous system. Disorders which are seen more commonly are mild conditions like irritation of nose, throat, and eyes. Pesticides are used extensively throughout the world.

Methodology: A Cross-sectional study was conducted in Deoli which is15 km away from Wardha. Agricultural pesticide sprayers and non Agricultural workers visiting RHTC Deoli in the Department of Community Medicine

Results: Pesticide sprayers and 5(6.02%) of  non agricultural workers were educated up to middle school level, 32(38.55%) of agricultural pesticide sprayers and 17(20.48%) of non agricultural workers were educated up to high school level, 6(7.22%) of agricultural pesticide sprayers and 15 (18.07%) of  non agricultural workers were educated up to junior college level. Running nose 15(18.07%) in agricultural pesticide workers (agricultural pesticide sprayers) compare to 10(12.04%) non agricultural workers, burning of eyes 48(57.83%) in agricultural pesticide workers compared to 15 (18.07%) in non agricultural workers, itching of eyes 30(36.12%) in agricultural pesticide sprayers compared to 2(2.40%) in non agricultural workers, excessive sweating 20(24.09%) in agricultural pesticide sprayers compared to 10(12.04%) in non agricultural workers.

Introduction : Drug administration using a metered dose inhaler (MDI) device

has become the mainstay of therapy in respiratory disorders, such as asthma

and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease . Correct inhalation technique is

critical in ensuring optimal drug delivery to the airways, and thereby its

efficacy. However, erroneous inhalation technique is very common in patients

with chronic airflow obstruction and hence, appropriate training is essential

for all these patients to ensure optimal therapy. We attempted to analyze the

technique of patients using manually operated MDIs, and again re analyzed

after a structured educational intervention,

Methods: This Analytical study had a randomised, parallel-group design .

Subjects were randomly selected from patients with respiratory disorders, aged

20 years and above, and Prior Consent from the patients were taken & was

found to be within ethical standards. It was conducted among patients

admitted to or attending to various local secondary health centres & tertiary

medical care institutes selected randomly. Patients who did not self-administer

their MDI or had linguistic difficulty in understanding the instructions were

excluded from the study. A time period of Four months was chosen as the

point of re-evaluation for inhaler technique.

Results: A significant difference was observed in the median score

improvement achieved in the practical demonstration group compared with

the written instruction group (p<0.001). The median score achieved by the

entire group was 3 (range, 1-8), which increased to 6, 7 and 8, respectively in

the subsequent interventions. At the completion of three sessions of

intervention, 98% of subjects were able to achieve a full score. Of these, 25%

patients achieved a full score after the first intervention itself while 36% and

39 % patients reached the full score after 2 and 3 interventions, respectively.

Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of faulty usage of inhaler technique

among patients. Repeated demonstration of the proper technique using a

standard check-list significantly reduces the errors committed during inhaler

use.
